Devlog #5 - A Thousand Frames Deep, and Still Not Idle
This one’s not about starting.
It’s about sticking with it until something finally feels right.
I’ve almost passed 1,000 hand-drawn frames across 8 directions. Not because I had to, but because the character (and game) needed more than “good enough.”
Most of those were redrawn, rethought, reworked. The idle stance? Scrapped and rebuilt. The anatomy? Overhauled for better balance and clarity. The lighting and shading? Tuned for game-readiness.
Because animation isn’t just movement, it’s intention.
3 New Animations Just Added
The set expands again, built with the same obsessive 8-direction structure and ready to drop into your workflow.
-
Run → 72 frames
-
Jump from Run → 96 frames (lift-off from motion)
-
Pick Up Medium Object → 144 frames
Combined with previous work, this pushes the total well past 896 usable frames, and every single one is modular, swappable, and designed for top-down survival gameplay.
Designed for Developers, Not Just Artists
Every animation is made with transitions in mind. I’m building connective tissue between movement states. Idle to Walk, Walk to Run, etc. Not just loops, but logic. Fluidity.
Want a jumpy, retro feel? Skip transitions.
Want seamless flow? Use them all.
You decide how smooth the ride is.
BareByte Is a Growing System
This isn't a static pack. It's a build-in-progress survival animation system that I’m expanding as I develop my game.
The more it grows, the more valuable it becomes.
The price will rise accordingly, because it’s not just getting bigger…
It’s getting better.
🧠 And yes, the old version is still in the pack. Bonus content.
Because progress doesn’t erase your past. It learns from it.
Thanks for being part of this.
